Marc Guggenheim Confirms John Diggle is not Green Lantern + Reveals DC has Plans for John Stewart

on February 14, 2015

Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has come out and addressed the recent viral concept that the character John Diggle may actually be the Green Lantern. From MTV.Com:

“It’s funny, I’ve spoken to David quite a bit about this issue, I know it keeps coming up,” Guggenheim told MTV News over the phone. “I spoke to [writer] Geoff Johns at DC after that interview went viral. Basically, John Diggle is now a character in the comics… John Diggle is John Diggle. We’re not being coy and saying John Diggle is someone else, i.e. John Stewart.”

Some may be disappointed by this, but there is a nugget of gold in the discussion. Guggenheim lets on that DC has “other plans” for John Stewart.

“DC has other plans for that character. We love David, and we love the character of John Diggle that he’s created. We have really cool plans for him… they involve a wedding ring, but they don’t involve a power ring.”

What could these “other plans” be? When I hear “other plans” in relation to the current DC television shows, they are usually of cinematic nature. This is exciting news because an actual industry official who is in the know has come out and said that DC has something planned for John. If it came down to having to decide between seeing John Stewart in movies or in CW televisions shows, I’ll take the movies any day!

Oa, by the way

John Stewart made a cameo on the cartoon show Teen Titans Go!, and in a rather hilarious segment. The whole thing isn’t long, but if you want to see John right away, you can find him at the 44 second mark.

In other news Comic Vine’s coverage of their character of the Month, John Stewart, continues. They have picked some excellent art pieces for showcase that were submitted by fans. Head over there to check them out.

Thanks for this, Clyde. Wow she’s so pretty!

And reading some of the comments on youtube is just sad tbh.

      • Clyde

Yes Steve, i read some of those comments and gave them a parting gift of sharing a piece of my mind, but its truly sad how delusional that they are. They talk about Hal as if he’s the only GL that there ever was and that the Corps. couldn’t survive without him. They tried to argue his value as THE ONE true lantern, and they are forgetting all about the rest of the lanterns. I know its messed up to say but i’m gonna enjoy the moment when John Stewart is officially backed by WB, and those same pieces of trash who bad mouths John will have a tough pill to swallow. That tough pill is called reality, something that doesn’t exist in their Fictional world. Lol.

Thanks for sharing the video. I’ll post it around. I agree with a lot of what she says, but I’d like for the movie to not be so enmeshed in the Emotional Spectrum.

And yeah, I’m just sitting back waiting for DC/WB to finally make their announcements so we can be done with these clueless people. Still, try not to let them get to you. They’re just desperate because many people are supporting John Stewart.

Thanks Desh for your constant words of wisdom. I sometimes lose my patience when dealing with irrational and illogical beings, however to your point, I must look at it from this psychological perspective, when some have lived their whole lives or perhaps most of it with a distinction that they perceive to be factual, and then information comes to light that interrupts that status quo, they go through the similar phrases of the 5 stages of grief. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. Right now they are in the denial stage, because no official announcement was made. Once one is made, then it’ll turn to anger, the same type of anger when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman. Then will come the bargaining, where they know that they can’t change the minds of the studios so they’ll beg for Hal Jordan to at least be a part of it somehow, like how a drug addict begs for another fix to get high. Then when the studios says no, depression will set in where they will rebel by stating that they won’t support the film and will bad mouth the film before its even made, and then after several more months pass and no pne is listening to their constant whining, they go through acceptance, where they shut their mouths and they still buy a ticket to see the film, because of curiosity. And that Desh completes their 5 stages of grief. And its because of what they will go through which you have already anticipated, that i have to just sit back say as little as possible and watch the hands of time and Dr. Fate take its course.

That’s exactly it, Clyde. We’re likely going to be hearing a lot of crap from them for the foreseeable future, and it’s going to be worse than what came with the Affleck casting or any other one, because of the whole race/socio-political issues that come with using John Stewart over Hal Jordan. People are going to blame WB for being PC, they’re going to call John a token, they’re going to blame democrats and the worst will blame the “Jew media.” It’s going to be ugly. I’m prepared for all of that.

I’m not saying don’t debate those people, because it’s good for us to represent John Stewart and his supporters. I’m just saying we should be prepared for them and to not let them get to us. In the end, we’re winning and that’s what matters. Sure, they say crap on Comic Vine, but look at the results of the polls. We win. Not them. They’re mad because we win. Sure they say crap on Youtube, but look who these huge channels like IGN, Clevver Movies, Grace Randolph and so on are supporting… John Stewart, not Hal Jordan. They’re mad because of that.

Right now, they’re desperate, annoyed at John’s support and all the news surrounding him, and in denial. Like you said, a flood of anger will come from them when WB/DC start making their support more manifest. I’m not saying don’t talk sense to them, but don’t let them frustrate you or wear you out.

I feel we’re in the twilight period of this “war.” This time of uncertainty. Things will be coming to an end soon. And there has still been no credible official who has leaked any hint about Hal Jordan, and we’ve gotten a flood about John Stewart, such as this notice of “other plans.” It’s interesting that Tyrese’s John Stewart updates more or less stopped after he landed that supposed meeting with WB. That could mean something, too.

Things are looking really good for us.

        • Steve Rogers

Don’t let them get to you. They’re just jealous of John being popular.
