Justice League: The Animated Series

I’m very proud to announce that there is a massive addition to the Essential Reading and Viewing area of this site. At long last, Justice League has been covered by GreenLantern.Co, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the most in-depth and thorough retrospective of the series to be find anywhere.

Most Green Lantern John Stewart fans became fans of the character because of his role in this groundbreaking show, so it holds a special place in many of our hearts. I put more effort into this retrospective than I have for any other project I’ve worked on for this website, and it’s the largest essay I’ve written… ever, for anything. I did all of that because Justice League deserves it. It is quite literally my favorite cartoon show. Head over to the article to find out why.

        Oh don’t worry. I don’t think any John fan should go on there and debate. I remembered a while ago when you said that John fans are going to be attacked more than ever currently.

          Heh. Yeah. It’s interesting that people act like we’re the annoying ones, when, from what I’ve seen, we’re typically minding our own business. From my observations, it’s others who make topics like, “Why does anyone like John Stewart?” (which implies there is something wrong or baffling about liking him), and topics that imply that we’re annoying. They are the ones who instigate problems, because we have totally innocent views that they just can’t seem to deal with. I guess they would be more comfortable if we were quiet and subservient. If people can’t really speak how they feel, what’s the point of having public forums and such?

          I’m not sure what the whole separating ourselves thing that one poster mentions even means. All fanbases are separate from others. That’s what makes them distinct fanbases. And just because one is a fan of John Stewart doesn’t mean they MUST be a fan of some other Green Lantern.

          And IF we separate ourselves, maybe it’s because we don’t want to deal with people like the ones I mentioned above. Why would we want to be around people who accuse us of only liking John Stewart because he’s black, or who say that those who prefer John obviously don’t read comic books (which is a very stupid thing to say, on multiple levels), or those who act like there is something strange about liking him best?

          Like most people, we associate with other like minded people. There is nothing wrong with that. And yet, there some are even blaming us for that >__>

            What bothers me the most is when they say that people only like John Stewart because he’s black. It sounds a little racist when you think about it.

            I think that Hal fans in particular find it hard to believe that John has this big fanbase, DESPITE his mistreatment in Geoff Johns’ run. They’re wondering “how is it possible that John has this many fans even knowing that he almost got killed off and being the underwritten character out of the 3 lanterns throughout the years?”. It’s impressive when you think about it.

            BTW, I was looking at some tweets from Geoff Johns and came across with this:

            What I think it comes down to, and what some weirdly have trouble understanding, is that the JL/JLU cartoons are far more influential and popular than any of the GL comic runs. John Stewart is a very prominent character in those shows, and through them, he has built many life long fans. That’s not something that can EVER be reversed, especially not by a considerably less relevant medium like comic books. And I say this as a fan of comics. I like comics, and I’m happy to see the industry grow and bring in other fans. However, I’ll never fool myself into thinking they’re more popular than popular television shows, no matter how long ago they originally aired.

            As for the Geoff Johns tweet, given how he’s been posting about John Stewart on social media lately, I don’t think that’s a coincidence. It definitely seems like he has big plans for John, which is nice. I think we’ll see John as a regular member of his Justice League soon.
