Flash and Green Lantern Team-up Film Rumored for XMas 2017

on June 13, 2014

Green Lantern + Flash

An article on NikkiFinke.Com reports that a slew of DC Comics related movies are slated between 2016 and 2018. Among them is a Flash and Green Lantern team-up film, allegedly scheduled for a Christmas 2017 release. According to this report, Ryan Reynolds will not be reprising his role as the Hal Jordan incarnation of Green Lantern. Unfortunately, there’s not much more to tell.

For the past year, one of the fiercest and most well-known debates in comic fandom has been regarding which incarnation of Green Lantern Warner Bros. should use for their burgeoning cinematic universe; John Stewart or Hal Jordan. Supporters of Jordan argue that Hal Jordan is a more important character in comic continuity, while fans of John Stewart bring out the character’s great success and fame from the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoon shows, and the failure of the Hal Jordan-centric 2011 Green Lantern film, in which a big complaint from people was that the Green Lantern wasn’t African American, like John Stewart.

This latest rumor, while interesting, doesn’t have anything to say about which Lantern will be showcased. I think we will know when San Diego Comic-Con happens in July. Stay tuned for more news.

Nikki Finke is supposedly very reliable. I hope things pan out the way we want them to. I can’t see two white leads in a modern summer buddy-adventure blockbuster, anyway. SDCC can’t come here soon enough.

Agreed. I see this as a great opportunity to have a buddy film with White and Black leads. However, I would prefer a John Stewart Green Lantern Corps movie primarily in space.

But there is certainly enough material for the writers to use as inspiration. JL/JLU featured excellent Flash and Green Lantern episodes like “The Brave and the Bold,” “Eclipsed,” and so on.

To be totally frank, one thing I really liked about Flash and Green Lantern’s friendship from the cartoons is that one was White and the other was Black. It just felt right and it promoted a great message. Perhaps the execs saw that, too.

True, they had a great dynamic.

I too have read the article about several DC comics movies in the works with G.L. & Flash teaming up as one of those films. I have also read that the actor R.R. will not be cast as G.L. in future incarnations, however the jury is still out on which Green Lantern will get the starting job. Comic Con is known for making blockbuster announcements, so perhaps indeed DC is waiting until mid July 2014 to unleash news to once again top Marvel’s. Now while DC is making headway in the blockbuster announcements section, we’ll see how that translates to on screen success.
