In case you missed it, John Stewart is the ComicVine.Com Character of the Month for February. This is thanks to fans like you voting John into the spot, and past other characters like Cyborg and Black Panther. Comic Vine released an official statement about John’s victory that makes special note of the huge fan support we gave the character. Check that out here:

Like the article says, Comic Vine will be running numerous features about John Stewart, and the first of which is a character battle against Magneto. The winner will, once again, be decided by voting, so head over to Comic Vine to continue showing your support for our favorite Green Lantern. Remember, there are people seeking to undermine him at every possible turn. Let’s counter them with our enthusiasm. The voting closes February 6th at 5:00 am.

Oa, by the way

John Stewart fans have taken to Youtube. Our very own Hudson Faber has started a Youtube Channel dedicated to John Stewart, which you can find right here:

Here are some highlights for you to check out.

John Stewart battles the cosmic despot Despero. This is one of my favorite fights from Justice League. John Stewart totally takes the leading man role in the episode “Hearts and Minds,” in which he gets the girl (or at least gets considerably closer to getting her) and has a flashy showdown with the main antagonist.

John Stewart’s creator, the legendary artist Neal Adams, recounts the creation of John Stewart. I never get tired of listening to Neal Adams’ John Stewart stories. He’s also fully aware of the huge impact the character has had.

John Stewart re-unites with his old friend, Rex Mason, who becomes Metamorpho. The adult storytelling, A+ voice acting, and polished lounge music are all signs of the sophistication of this action cartoon show.

Be sure to like the videos and subscribe to the channel!

BAD NEWS: On Twitter, Van Jensen says DC has no plans of hiring him for the post-Convergence Green Lantern books. He also said “Never hurts to let the folks at DC know you’d like to see more.”

    https://twitter.com/van_jensen

I am begging ALL of you. Get on Twitter and tweet DC about bringing Jensen on for more. He’s put out nothing but stellar work, and he has shown far more respect for John Stewart than any other current DC writer EVER has.

Also, keeping Jensen off the Green Lantern books makes no sense, since he was selling solid numbers…

I smell something foul in the air. Van Jensen not coming back. I would blame Darth Vader, but he’s dead so my number one suspect behind this is Geoff Johns.

I am about to flip a table. This is Mosaic all over again.

“In an unusual move, and although sales of the book were very strong, Green Lantern: Mosaic was cancelled early into its run. In an interview, Cully Hamner revealed the reasons behind the cancellation:

(A)s I was told at the time, it didn’t fit with DC editorial vision (whatever that means). Sales didn’t matter, fan support didn’t matter… It was marked for cancellation when issue #5 came out, and they allowed Gerry Jones a year to wrap it up, but there was no doubt that it was being cancelled because somebody upstairs just didn’t care for it.”

Only difference between now and then is that we have Twitter.

So i read the post fight comments on comicvine as it relates to John winning, and i have to say that there seems to be resentment from some. While they won’t admit it so that they don’t come across as douche bags, i called them out on their b.s.; some are pissed that another DC character won COTM, some are pissed that Hal Jordan should’ve been chosen as COTM long before any other lantern, much less John. Some are mad because Black Panther didn’t come out on top. Some are mad because Magneto won, and some are just mad because they happen to dislike John for whatever the reason and don’t understand how he’s even relevant. So i encouraged them to continue their hate, because the more that they act like Geoff Johns, is the more John Stewart will rise.

But Magneto didn’t win. He lost the poll. Don’t let the haters get to you. They show up every time a black character gets some shine. If they really mattered, Stewart would have died years ago.

Thanks for your words of encouragement, however this is no longer about it just being a black character, its now a combination of things. They are defaming John Stewart’s good name and rep. They do this each time John is successful at something. What’s sad is that i’m convinced that they would do the same thing even if he isn’t. You see some are mad because yet again another DC comics charcter won COTM. Making it 5 months straight. They’re mad because the 1st ever GL to win a COTM wasn’t Hal Jordan, but instead a Lantern that they look at as his back up, a labtern that they believe is a nobody. They’remad because not only did John Stewart over take Black Panther to win, but he dominated in the end to secure that victory where there was no chance in hell that Black Panther could ever come back from that deficit. And lastly, they’re mad because not only did John beat Maneto, but he defeated a Marvel guy. I don’t mind the hate, but to spread disinformation on top of it is where i draw the line. And some casual fans/audience members who aren’t as knowledgeable about what goes on behind the scenes might just believe that garbage. I was born on the USA holiday Independence Day, it represents liberty, freedom, equality, justice and more. So whenever there is injustice and i could potentially do something about it…i’m all over it. Geoff has lead the charge to bury John Stewart, andhis minions are everywhere. But John Stewart has his rebel alliance and i’m a part of them and i will go to my grave before Geoff Johns completes that mission. Believe that!

The haters will always be there. Some people just can’t get over the fact that a Black hero who was supposed to be a “backup” has legitimately, naturally surpassed the supposed “iconic” White version. We just have to be prepared for that and to counter it with our own enthusiasm and support for John. The fact of the matter is that we have won two big polls in a row and they are losing.

When an animal gets caught in a corner, it may lash out desperately. That is what we’re seeing from those sorts of people. They are on the losing end, and they are now lashing out desperately. That is what the planned John Stewart death was no doubt about. Hal Jordan was falling and John Stewart was rising, so the-powers-that-be tried something desperate, but it blew up in their face.

The haters will be there, but don’t mind them. In the end, we are the ones who are winning.
