Characters Section Added.

on July 21, 2013

Here’s another update for you, John Stewart fans. The Characters section is up and running. In that area of the site, you’ll find profiles for…

Katma Tui
Katma Tui

Katma is my second favorite Green Lantern, and arguably the most important character to John Stewart.

Rose Hardin
Rose Hardin

Now here is a Green Lantern character that just does not get her due. I daresay Rose Hardin is one of the best Green Lantern characters there have been.

Salaak
Salaak

He is the Green Lantern of Space Sector 1418 and a constant pessimist. Salaak of planet Slyggia is meticulously concerned with laws and protocol, and much less with being amiable or polite.

Arisia
Arisia Rrab

Arisia is the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2815. She hails from the planet Graxos IV and is especially interesting in that she comes from a long line of Green Lanterns. Her father, Fentara, was a Green Lantern, and so was her uncle Blish.

Kilowog
Kilowog

Though Kilowog is large and hulking, he’s not your stereotypical “big guy” in comics. He is a brilliant scientist specializing in the field of genetics.

Tawny Young
Tawny Young

A reporter for K.L.A.Q. In Los Angeles. Tawny Young’s most notable contribution to John Stewart’s story was revealing his secret identity on television.

And…
Tomar-Re
Tomar-Re

Tomar-Re is a very important character to John Stewart, as, in some ways, John is his successor.

There will be more characters added soon, such as The Flash, Despero, Hawkgirl, Hro Talek, War Hawk, Soranik Natu, and Yrra Cynril (Fatality), so stay tuned!

Oa, by the way

Last update, I talked about seeing John Stewart in forms of media besides comic books, and I’d like to stick with that topic in this update’s Oa, By the Way…

Interestingly, in polls conducted on IGN and Comic Book Resources asking fans which Green Lantern they would like to see in movies, John Stewart is the prevailing winner. It’s not too surprising, considering many people came to love the character due to his incredibly well executed and strong role on the superb shows “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited.”

The polls can be viewed here:
CBR Poll.
IGN Poll.
And further discussion of this can be found on Comic Vine.

That’s something for John fans to be proud of, especially since he’s winning/won by quite a large margin! What I have a problem with, however, is that DC Entertainment doesn’t seem to want to accept the character’s popularity. It’s easily seen in how they would continually shuffle John off to the background and not do anything to advance his character, while continually pushing Hal Jordan to the moon. I used to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it eventually got to the point where it couldn’t be denied any longer.

Some might say, “What are you talking about? John Stewart has his own comic book series.” Oh, sure, he does now. However, for that to happen, it took massive outcry from fans after the supposed editorial mandate to kill John Stewart was leaked to the public.

We all know the only reason Cyborg is in the current incarnation of the Justice League is because the Justice League needs some diversity. Who is the guy known for adding diversity to the Justice League? Why, Green Lantern John Stewart, of course. Obviously, writer and Creative Control Officer Geoff Johns refuses to use John Stewart, so he shoehorned a Teen Titan in there to be “the black guy,” and this is the vision of Justice League he’s trying very hard to promote. This is the same Geoff Johns who basically benched John Stewart during his nine year tenure overseeing the Green Lantern franchise.

On the one hand, I’m glad that Geoff Johns isn’t handling John Stewart, because I honestly can’t stand his writing. But on the other, the principle of what Geoff Johns does really bothers me. Because of things like that, it’s not too much of a stretch to think that maybe there really was an editorial mandate to kill John. As a John Stewart fan, it’s incredibly frustrating seeing things like this happen to a character with so much support behind him.

In light of all of this, I’d like to plug some videos showing support for John Stewart.
This fan clearly wants to see Green Lantern John Stewart on the silver screen.

Well, that’s an African-American, of course he does, right?
Here, we have a blonde haired white woman who expresses the same sentiment.

All kinds of people came to love the character John Stewart and many people want to see him! I don’t mean to knock another Green Lantern, but it says a lot when the one they’ve tried so hard to push can’t even win these polls, and the one who was ignored for so many years can.

DC and WB, stop trying to fight against what your fans want to see. It is what it is, the proof is in the pudding, and you’re not going to erase how people feel.
Do the smart thing and please stop trying to sabotage/kill/hide/erase characters that people really love. Be happy that people actually like your stuff and take advantage of that.
